How to Change Steam Account
Important Warning
When using Steam with Game Hub purchased games, it's extremely important to understand the difference between:
NEVER DO THIS:
Clicking "Log out of account" from the Steam menu
This can cause authentication issues and might prevent you from accessing your games permanently.
ALWAYS DO THIS:
Use the "Change Account..." option to switch accounts
This properly switches accounts while maintaining necessary cached credentials.
How to Change Steam Account (Correct Method)
Open Steam Menu
Click on the "Steam" menu in the upper-left corner of the Steam client window.
Select "Change Account..."
In the dropdown menu, find and click on the "Change Account..." option.DO NOT click "Log out of account".
Enter New Account Credentials
A login window will appear. Enter the username and password for the account you want to switch to.
Make sure to click "Remember me" when logging in to a Game Hub provided account for the first time, but do not enable Steam Guard.
Click "Sign In"
Click the "Sign In" button to switch to the other account. Steam will reload with the new account's library and settings.
Go Offline (For Game Hub Accounts)
If you're switching to a Game Hub provided account, remember to turn off Remote Play and go offline as explained in our other guides.
Switching Between Multiple Game Hub Accounts
If you have purchased multiple games from Game Hub with different Steam accounts:
- Always use the "Change Account..." method described above
- Remember to go offline after switching to each Game Hub account
- Consider keeping track of which account has which games
Multiple Devices Tip:
If you play on multiple computers, you'll need to go through the installation and offline process for each Game Hub account on each computer.
Troubleshooting Account Switch Issues
If You Cannot Change Accounts
Try these steps in order:
- Restart the Steam client
- Restart your computer
- Temporarily enable internet connection (if offline), switch accounts, then go offline again
If You Accidentally Logged Out
If you accidentally used "Log out" instead of "Change Account":
- Log back in with your Game Hub provided credentials
- Make sure to click "Remember me" during login
- Turn off Remote Play again
- Go Offline again
- If you cannot log back in, contact Game Hub support immediately
