The Steam installation wizard will open. Click "Next" to proceed, then select your preferred language and installation location. The default location is usually fine for most users. Click "Next" to continue.

Click "Install" to begin the installation process. Wait for the installation to complete, which usually takes a few minutes depending on your internet connection and computer speed.

6

Launch Steam

Once the installation is complete, the Steam application will launch automatically. You can also find Steam in your Start menu or on your desktop if you chose to create a shortcut.

7

Create an Account or Sign In

If you're a new user, click "Create a new account" and follow the prompts to create your Steam account. If you already have a Steam account, enter your login credentials to sign in.

For Game Hub purchases, you should log in with the account information provided to you after purchase, not your personal Steam account.

Troubleshooting Common Installation Issues

Installation Stuck or Freezing

If the installation appears to freeze, try closing the installer, restarting your computer, and trying again. You can also try temporarily disabling your antivirus software during installation.

Insufficient Disk Space

Make sure you have at least 3 GB of free space on the drive where you're installing Steam. You'll need additional space for games you download later.

Windows Security Alert

If Windows Firewall prompts you with a security alert, make sure to allow Steam to communicate on private networks (and public networks if you use them).
